Headteacher's Message
Dear Parents & Carers
I cannot believe that I have already been here at WSFG for half a term. The time has flown by and I have very much enjoyed getting to know the wonderful staff and delightful students we have here. Without exception, everyone has been most welcoming.
This week has been as busy as the others and these are just a few of the different activities in which our staff and students have been engaged. We started the week relieved to hear that all our students and staff on the Paris trip managed to return to the UK without any weather-related delay. On Monday all our Year 10 students worked with an outside team of trainers on the Lionheart Challenge. Groups were encouraged to develop a business idea then market and promote their product. Last year the school produced a team which reached the regional finals - we will keep you posted on the progress of our teams this year.
On Wednesday we hosted the Waltham Forest trampolining competition with over eighty girls and boys competing from ten schools for the trophy. The standard was impressive and the winners have the chance of being scouted to take part in the London Youth Games. Many congratulations to both our Youth Leaders and our squad members and staff for the organisation.
Meanwhile, all this week the students in our Food Focus Group have been leading assemblies on healthy eating along with Ms Chamberlain our Business Manager. We were introduced to the delights of instant ice cream as well as finding out more about our new vending machines and some online games and competitions.
To round up the week, Year 9s were cheered by a one person high energy performance of Macbeth - although ‘cheered’ as a description of the effect of Macbeth on an audience does seem unlikely. Finally, I should not omit our valiant Year 11s who are working hard both in class and after school in preparation for their GCSEs. Overall, just a typical week at WSFG.
